The Haunting Secrets of Angeliki

Drama  Greece

Miss Violence is a Greek drama film directed by Alexandros Avranas. The film follows the story of an 11-year-old girl named Angeliki who commits suicide by jumping off from the balcony on her birthday. The film takes place in an apartment, where Angeliki and her family reside. The family, which consists of Angeliki, her parents, her grandmother, and her two siblings, appear to be a happy and loving family.

However, as the investigation into Angeliki's death begins, it is revealed that there is something dark and sinister going on in the household. The police and Social Services uncover physical and mental abuse, sexual exploitation, and manipulation in the family. The family members all seem to be hiding something and are determined to keep their secrets hidden.

As the story unfolds, viewers are provided with flashbacks and clues that gradually reveal the reason for Angeliki's suicide. It is eventually revealed that the father had been sexually abusing Angeliki for years, and her mother had turned a blind eye to the abuse. Angeliki's smile on her face when she jumped off the balcony was for finally being free from the abuse.

The film is dark and disturbing, with graphic scenes of abuse and trauma. It raises important issues surrounding child abuse and the importance of speaking up and taking action when abuse is suspected. It also highlights the devastating impact that abuse can have on families and individuals. The film won the Silver Lion award for Best Director at the 2013 Venice International Film Festival.
