Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day is a 2008 romantic comedy-drama film directed by Bharat Nalluri and starring Frances McDormand and Amy Adams. The film is set in 1939 London and follows the story of Miss Guinevere Pettigrew, a middle-aged governess who has been dismissed from her job yet again. Without any prospects, Miss Pettigrew visits a job agency for domestic service and is mistaken for a social secretary by the glamorous American actress and singer Delysia Lafosse, who is seeking a new assistant.

Miss Pettigrew is quickly swept up in Delysia's glamorous world of parties, romance, and elegant clothes in a whirlwind adventure as she attempts to keep up with Delysia’s fast-paced life. Along the way, Miss Pettigrew finds herself involved with three different men: Michael, a sincere pianist who is hopelessly in love with Delysia; Joe, a successful fashion designer who is Delysia’s employer and mentor; and Phil, a wealthy and handsome nightclub owner who has his eye on Delysia.

As the day progresses, Miss Pettigrew learns that Delysia is in love with Michael but is hesitant to commit to him because of her career ambitions and her complicated romantic history. Meanwhile, Delysia's other suitors are threatening to ruin her career unless they get what they want from her. Miss Pettigrew must use all of her wits to help Delysia resolve her romantic problems and choose her true love, all while avoiding getting swept up in the chaos herself.

Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day is a charming and heartwarming story about friendship, love, and self-discovery in a time of upheaval. It has received critical acclaim for its performances, costume design, and its evocation of pre-World War II London.
