Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears is a 2020 Australian adventure/mystery film directed by Tony Tilse and based on the popular television series Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries. The film follows the escapades of the glamorous and witty detective, Phryne Fisher (Essie Davis), who, in 1929, travels to Jerusalem after receiving a plea for help from a Bedouin girl, Shirin Abbas (Izabella Yena), who has been unjustly imprisoned.
With the help of her trusty police detective friend, Jack Robinson (Nathan Page), Phryne manages to free Shirin and soon discovers a hidden crypt containing the remains of an ancient queen, as well as an inscription that hints at the location of a legendary treasure - the emeralds of the ancient goddess Ishtar. However, the crypt soon proves to be dangerous when a group of armed men attack the trio and steal the crypt's mysterious contents.
Determined to uncover the truth behind the crypt and its treasures, Phryne and Jack follow the clues and set out on an adventure that takes them from the Middle East to London and ultimately to an exclusive resort in the Swiss Alps, where they finally confront the culprits behind the crime. Along the way, they meet a cast of eccentric characters, including a dashing pilot (Rupert Penry-Jones) and a troubled heiress (Miriam Margolyes), all of whom help to unravel the mystery behind the emeralds, an ancient curse, and the disappearance of Shirin's mother and the massacre of her tribe.
Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears is a visually stunning film, with beautiful location shots, intricate period costumes, and plenty of action and suspense. Davis and Page also give excellent performances, bringing their characters to life with wit, charm, and just the right amount of drama. Overall, the film is a thrilling adventure that fans of the series and newcomers alike will enjoy.
