Miranda's Victim follows the true story of Trish Weir, a young woman living in Arizona in 1963. One night, while walking home from a friend's house, she is kidnapped at gunpoint by Ernesto Miranda, a repeat offender with a history of violent crime.
Over the next several hours, Miranda brutally rapes and beats Trish, leaving her for dead in the desert. But she survives and is determined to bring her attacker to justice.
As Trish works with law enforcement to identify and arrest Miranda, she discovers a loophole in the legal system that allows him to avoid prosecution. The Miranda Warning, which requires police to inform suspects of their rights before questioning them, had not yet been established by the Supreme Court.
Trish becomes a champion for victims' rights and works tirelessly to ensure that Miranda is held accountable for his crimes. But as she battles a system that is rigged against her, her own life begins to unravel. Her marriage falls apart, she loses custody of her children, and she battles depression and PTSD.
Ultimately, Trish's efforts lead to the landmark Supreme Court case Miranda v. Arizona, which establishes the Miranda Warning and transforms the legal landscape of the United States.
