Justin Yoder, played by Frankie Muniz, has a genetic disorder called Spinal Muscular Atrophy, which confines him to a wheelchair and requires him to use a ventilator to breathe. Despite his physical limitations, Justin refuses to let it hold him back from living life to the fullest. With the unwavering support of his family, particularly his loving and determined mother, Stacey (played by Mary Mara), he decides to join a soapbox derby racing team.
At first, Justin struggles to be taken seriously by his teammates and the other racers, who see his disability as a disadvantage. He also has to deal with a treacherous rival racer, who will stop at nothing to win. But with his determination and resourcefulness, Justin ultimately wins them over and proves that he's a force to be reckoned with.
Throughout the film, we see Justin's family rally around him, including his father, Fred (played by Rick Rossovich) and his older brother, Seth (played by Patrick Levis), who is a star athlete. Justin looks up to Seth and wants to emulate his athletic prowess, despite not having full use of his body.
