In the movie Minority Report, based on a story by Philip K. Dick, John Anderton (played by Tom Cruise) is the chief of the PreCrime unit in Washington DC, which uses a trio of psychic precogs to predict and prevent crimes before they occur. PreCrime has been highly effective at reducing crime and is about to be implemented nationwide.

However, when the precogs predict that Anderton himself will commit a murder in the near future, he becomes a fugitive on the run from both his former colleagues and the criminals he previously put away. He enlists the help of a young woman named Agatha (played by Samantha Morton), one of the precogs, to try to clear his name and uncover a conspiracy within the PreCrime program.

During his search for the truth, Anderton encounters a number of characters, including a former scientist named Dr. Iris Hineman (played by Lois Smith) who developed the precog technology, a fellow PreCrime officer named Danny Witwer (played by Colin Farrell) who is investigating Anderton's case, and a cybernetic surgeon named Dr. Solomon Eddie (played by Peter Stormare) who provides Anderton with a new set of eyes to evade capture.

As Anderton works to prove his innocence and bring the true criminals to justice, he also begins to question the morality of the PreCrime system and the role of free will in a world where crimes can be predicted and prevented. The movie culminates in a tense showdown between Anderton and his pursuers, as the true nature of the conspiracy is revealed and the fate of the PreCrime program hangs in the balance.
