Miller's Crossing is a neo-noir crime film directed by Joel and Ethan Coen, released in 1990. Set in 1929, it is a story of power and betrayal set in an unnamed eastern city dominated by Irish-American gangsters.
The main character, Tom Reagan (played by Gabriel Byrne), is the right-hand man and advisor to Leo O'Bannon, the local political boss. Tom's loyalty to Leo is put to the test when Leo's girlfriend, Verna Bernbaum (played by Marcia Gay Harden), seduces Tom behind Leo's back.
The situation becomes more complicated when Leo orders Tom to kill Verna's brother, Bernie (played by John Turturro), who is causing trouble for the gang. Tom wants to spare Bernie's life, but he must choose between his loyalty to Leo and his feelings for Verna.
As tensions rise, other rival gangsters enter the scene, including Johnny Caspar (played by Jon Polito), who is at odds with Leo. A complex web of double-crosses, betrayals, and violence ensues, as Tom tries to navigate his way through the dangerous world of organized crime.
Miller's Crossing is known for its witty dialogue, stylish cinematography, and strong performances from its ensemble cast. It has become a cult classic among film fans and is considered one of the Coen brothers' best films.
