Comedy,Drama,Romance  United States of America

Mermaids is a 1990 American comedy-drama film directed by Richard Benjamin and starring Cher, Bob Hoskins, Winona Ryder, and Christina Ricci in her film debut. The movie is set in the 1960s and follows the story of Charlotte Flax, a young girl who is tired of moving around the country with her wacky mother, Rachel.

After Rachel gets a job at a convent in a small Massachusetts town, Charlotte hopes that they can finally settle down. Rachel begins dating the local shopkeeper, Lou Landsky, and the family seems to be doing well, until Charlotte becomes infatuated with an older man, Joe, who is the caretaker at the convent.

As Charlotte's relationship with Joe continues to grow, she finds herself feeling torn between her attraction to him and her desire to have a stable family life. Meanwhile, Kate, Charlotte's younger sister, is struggling with her own issues, including the fear that she will turn into a mermaid like the ones she has read about in books.

Throughout the movie, the family must learn to accept each other for who they truly are, despite their flaws and quirks. Themes of love, family, and self-acceptance are explored, as the characters navigate the challenges of growing up and finding their place in the world.
