Mumbai Slum's Hopeful Plea to Prime Minister

Drama  India

Mere Pyare Prime Minister is a 2019 Hindi-language social drama film directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. The movie showcases the struggles of four slum kids living in Mumbai's Ghatkopar area. Kanhu, an eight-year-old boy, is the central character who writes a letter to the Prime Minister after a tragic incident with his mother.

The movie opens with Kanhu (Om Kanojiya) living with his single mother Sargam (Anjali Patil) in a Mumbai slum. While Sargam works day and night to make ends meet, Kanhu is left to fend for himself and take care of his younger brother. One day, while Sargam is out working, Kanhu's younger brother falls sick and dies due to lack of medical attention. Devastated, Kanhu decides to write a letter to the Prime Minister, asking for a toilet in his slum. He believes that if there was a toilet near their house, he could have taken his brother to the hospital on time.

Kanhu's letter to the Prime Minister gets viral, and soon the four children - Kanhu, Nirala (Adarsh Bharti), Mangla (Prasad) and Ringtone (Makrand Deshpande) - become a sensation in the media. They are invited to meet the Prime Minister to present their list of demands, including a toilet and a school in their slum.

The movie portrays the harsh realities of life in Indian slums, such as open defecation, lack of healthcare and education facilities, and the dangers of living in a vulnerable environment. It also highlights the resilience and determination of the children, who refuse to give up on their dreams despite the odds stacked against them.

The movie features powerful performances by the child actors, while Anjali Patil delivers a moving portrayal of a single mother struggling to make ends meet. Overall, Mere Pyare Prime Minister is a heartfelt and emotional movie that raises awareness about the plight of slum dwellers and the need for better living conditions.
