Memento is a neo-noir psychological thriller film directed by Christopher Nolan, and stars Guy Pearce as Leonard Shelby and Joe Pantoliano as Teddy. The film is based on a short story by Nolan's brother, Jonathan Nolan.
The film is told in reverse chronological order, beginning with the end of the story and ending with its beginning. Leonard Shelby is a former insurance investigator who is tracking down the man who raped and murdered his wife. To help him remember important information, Leonard creates a system of notes and tattoos on his body. He also takes Polaroid photos to help him remember people and places. Despite his limitations, Leonard is determined to find his wife's killer and seeks the help of Teddy, a police officer, in his search.
As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that not everything is as it seems. Leonard's memory loss and single-minded focus on finding his wife's killer has led him down a dangerous path, one that may ultimately lead to his own destruction.
