Melissa P.

Drama  Italy,Spain

The movie Melissa P. is a coming-of-age drama that explores the sexual awakening of its titular protagonist, a young Italian girl who is restless and dissatisfied with her suburban life. Melissa lives with her mother, who is often absent and preoccupied with her own pursuits, and her grandmother, who is devoutly religious and strict.

Melissa becomes enamored with Daniele, a handsome schoolmate, and they embark on a sexual relationship that quickly becomes obsessive and exploitative. Melissa begins to explore her sexuality in increasingly risky and dangerous ways, including group sex and prostitution.

As her behavior becomes more erratic and self-destructive, Melissa seeks guidance from her aunt, a free-spirited artist who encourages her to embrace her desires and pursue her art. But even as Melissa begins to find some measure of freedom and self-expression, the consequences of her actions threaten to overwhelm her and those around her.

The film is based on the controversial autobiographical novel "One Hundred Strokes of the Brush Before Bed" by Melissa Panarello, which caused a stir in Italy upon its release in 2003. It explores themes of female desire, identity, and agency, as well as the dangers and pitfalls of sexual exploration.
