Meek's Cutoff is a slow-burning drama that depicts the grueling journey of three families who are traveling along the Oregon Trail in search of a new life. Led by the enigmatic guide Stephen Meek, the group takes a shortcut that leads them into uncharted territory and leaves them hopelessly lost. With their water and resources dwindling, tensions rise as the settlers begin to doubt Meek's ability to lead them to safety.
As the days pass, the group becomes increasingly desperate, and they begin to rely on an Indigenous captive they have taken in order to survive. Through sparse dialogue and haunting landscapes, Meek's Cutoff explores themes of trust, survival, and the clash of cultures in the American West.
The film is directed by Kelly Reichardt and stars Michelle Williams, Bruce Greenwood, and Will Patton. It received critical acclaim upon its release in 2010 and is regarded as a modern classic of the Western genre.
