Maximum Overdrive is a 1986 horror film written and directed by Stephen King, based on his 1973 short story "Trucks." The film stars Emilio Estevez as Bill Robinson, the head cook at a truck stop in North Carolina, where a comet's tail has caused all machines to become sentient and homicidal.
As the machines, including trucks, cars, and electronics, begin attacking people on a massive scale, Bill and a group of survivors take refuge inside the truck stop. However, they are soon besieged by a gang of homicidal truck drivers, who are led by the mysterious Green Goblin truck.
The survivors board up the truck stop and attempt to defend themselves against the machines, but they are gradually picked off one by one. Meanwhile, Bill begins to have visions of a mysterious presence communicating with him through the arcade game in the truck stop.
As the survivors struggle to stay alive, they realize that the machines are controlled by an unknown force, and they must find a way to disable it before they are all killed.
The film features intense action sequences, a heavy metal soundtrack, and over-the-top performances, including a memorable cameo by Stephen King himself. Despite mixed critical reviews, Maximum Overdrive has become a cult classic and a favorite of horror fans around the world.
