Max is a highly respected detective in Paris who has become increasingly frustrated with his inability to capture the gangs of robbers that are plaguing the city. When a chance encounter with an old acquaintance leads him to a group of petty thieves, Max sees an opportunity to re-establish his reputation and catch the criminals he has been pursuing for so long.
Working in collaboration with a reluctant police captain, Max launches a complicated plan to entrap the thieves. At the center of his scheme is Lilly, a young prostitute who is the girlfriend of the group's leader.
