In addition to Skeletor's victory over Castle Grayskull and the capture of the Sorceress, He-Man and his allies are scattered and in hiding. He-Man himself has been sent to Earth by the Sorceress using the cosmic key, where he encounters two teenagers named Julie and Kevin. The trio eventually teams up with Gwildor, who has also ended up on Earth, and they work to track down Skeletor and the cosmic key in order to return to Eternia and stop Skeletor's plans.
Meanwhile, Skeletor's second-in-command, Evil-Lyn, becomes disillusioned with his rule and begins to consider a coup. She ultimately switches sides to help He-Man and his allies, leading a distraction during the final battle while He-Man battles Skeletor one-on-one. In the end, He-Man is able to use the power of Grayskull to defeat Skeletor and save the Sorceress.
The film was criticized for departing from the original cartoon's setting and characters, as well as for its special effects and overall quality. It was a financial disappointment and plans for a sequel were scrapped. However, it has since developed a cult following over the years.
