Marvelous and the Black Hole is a coming-of-age story about a rebellious teenager named Sammy Ko (played by Miya Cech) who copes with the loss of her mother by acting out and getting into trouble. After a particularly dangerous prank, Sammy is sent to summer school to get her back on track.
There, she meets Margot (played by Rhea Perlman), a grumpy and somewhat mysterious magician who runs the program. Despite their initial clashes, Margot takes an interest in Sammy and starts teaching her sleight of hand magic as a way to deal with her issues and steer her away from trouble.
As Sammy delves deeper into the world of magic, she begins to confront the darker parts of herself and her family, including a strained relationship with her older sister and an absent father.
