The movie Man-Thing is based on a Marvel comic book character of the same name, created by Steve Gerber and Val Mayerik. The story is set in the fictional town of Bywater in the Florida Everglades, where a group of agents working for the multinational corporation Schist Industries have gone missing while conducting a survey for oil drilling.
The disappearance prompts Schist Industries to dispatch their top troubleshooter, Kyle Williams, to investigate the situation. Williams enlists the help of the local sheriff, Fraser, who is initially reluctant to get involved due to his strained relations with the corporation and his own personal issues.
As the investigation unfolds, it becomes apparent that the swamp holds a dark and ancient secret. A legend of the local Seminole tribe comes to life in the form of Man-Thing, a humanoid creature made of plant matter that seems to be the guardian of the swamp. Man-Thing's touch causes intense burning to those who experience fear, making him a savage and deadly protector.
With the help of a beautiful scientist, Dr. Ellen Brandt, Kyle and Fraser must unravel the mystery of the missing agents, confront the dangers of the swamp, and ultimately face Man-Thing in a climactic battle for survival.
