Jonathan Switcher is an inventive artist who has been struggling to find steady work. He takes on a short-term job as a window dresser for a department store called Prince & Company, where he is constantly berated by his boss, Claire Timkin. One day, he stumbles upon a mannequin that he had previously created and is stunned to see that it has come to life. The mannequin introduces herself as Emmy, an ancient Egyptian princess who had been cursed by a magician and turned into a piece of wood for thousands of years.
Jonathan is initially shocked by the talking mannequin but soon agrees to keep her secret and becomes close to her. He starts bringing Emmy to life by dressing her up and posing her in different ways for the window displays. The public starts to take notice, and the displays become viral hits, driving in crowds of customers to the store. As they spend more time together, Emmy and Jonathan fall deeply in love.
However, their happiness is short-lived as Claire Timkin, who is desperate to find out the secret behind Jonathan's success, devises a plan to steal Emmy and use her for the store's own benefit. With Emmy gone, Jonathan falls into a depression, and the store's business starts declining. Emmy, who has been turned back into a mannequin, comes to life once again to help Jonathan and the store. Together they create a new window display that breaks records and saves the store from bankruptcy.
In the end, Emmy's spell is finally broken, and she becomes a real woman. Jonathan and Emmy consummate their love, and they ride off into the sunset, ready to start a new life together as lovers, and business partners.
