Man of Steel is a 2013 superhero film directed by Zack Snyder and produced by Christopher Nolan. The film is a reboot of the Superman film series and stars Henry Cavill as Clark Kent / Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, and Michael Shannon as General Zod.

The story begins with the destruction of the planet Krypton, where Jor-El (played by Russell Crowe), a scientist and father of Kal-El (later Clark Kent), sends his newborn son to Earth in an effort to preserve the Kryptonian race. The infant is discovered and raised by Jonathan and Martha Kent (played by Kevin Costner and Diane Lane), who name him Clark and teach him to control his powers.

As an adult, Clark travels the world to find out more about his heritage and what he is meant to do with his abilities. He eventually discovers a Kryptonian scout ship hidden in the Arctic, which leads him to a holographic message from his father and a suit designed to help him control his powers.

Meanwhile, General Zod, a survivor from Krypton, discovers that Kal-El is alive and arrives on Earth with his army to take over the planet and build a new Krypton. Clark must embrace his powers and become Superman to stop Zod and save Earth.

The film features intense action sequences, emotional performances, and stunning visuals. It received mixed reviews from critics but was a box office success, grossing over $668 million worldwide. It paved the way for DC Extended Universe and a sequel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
