Mame is a 1974 musical comedy film based on the Broadway musical of the same name, which was based on the novel Auntie Mame by Patrick Dennis. The film stars Lucille Ball as Mame Dennis, Robert Preston as Beauregard Jackson Pickett Burnside, and Beatrice Arthur as Vera Charles.
The story begins in the 1920s, with Mame living a carefree and wild lifestyle in New York City. When her brother dies unexpectedly, she becomes the guardian of her young nephew Patrick (played by Kirby Furlong as a child and by Bruce Davison as an adult). Mame's unconventional approach to parenting conflicts with Patrick's conservative upbringing, but they eventually learn to bond over their shared love of adventure and free-spiritedness.
The film features several memorable musical numbers, including the opening song "Mame" and the duet "Bosom Buddies" sung by Mame and her best friend Vera.
