Malibu Rescue: The Next Wave is a comedy movie that follows the story of a group of Junior Rescuers, also called The Flounders, who return to Tower 2 for another summer season. This time, they are preparing for the biggest competition of their lives - the International Junior Rescue Championships. The stakes are high and the pressure is mounting as the eyes of the world are upon them.
However, when Team USA falls victim to food poisoning, the hopes of the country rest on the shoulders of Tyler, Dylan, Eric, Lizzie, and Gina. Even though they are not the official representatives of the country, the group decides to take on the challenge and represent their nation in the most extreme lifeguard challenge ever.
To win the competition, the Flounders must face not only the best junior rescuers from around the world but also a powerful and notorious private team that will do everything in their power to win.
Amidst the thrilling competitions and challenges, the group must also deal with their personal issues. Tyler is trying to cope up with his father's expectations, while Dylan is struggling with his fear of heights. Eric and Lizzie, on the other hand, are dealing with their growing feelings for each other, while Gina is still trying to adjust to the new environment.
