Malcolm is a socially awkward mechanical genius who is obsessed with building a tram from spare parts. Despite being fired from his job for building it on company time, Malcolm continues to work on his creation in secret, pouring all his energy and resources into the project.
However, the mounting bills force him to seek out a roommate, and he finds Frank, a gruff ex-convict with a rough exterior but a good heart. Initially, the two clash due to their different personalities and backgrounds, but they eventually become friends when Malcolm shows Frank his tram and his mechanical prowess.
With Frank's encouragement, Malcolm starts to see the potential of his skills beyond his tram project and begins to use them for criminal purposes. The two embark on a series of heists, starting small and working their way up to more elaborate and dangerous schemes.
