In the movie, Madea (played by Tyler Perry) is arrested for a minor offense but ends up in jail after getting caught up in a high-speed car chase. While behind bars, she befriends a young woman named Candace (played by Keshia Knight Pulliam) who is struggling with addiction and has a traumatic past.
As Madea tries to help Candace, she also has to deal with the warden (played by Derek Luke) who has a personal vendetta against her. Along the way, Madea also has hilarious run-ins with the other inmates and staff at the jail.
Meanwhile, Candace's story unfolds as we learn about the events that led to her addiction and incarceration. Madea becomes determined to help her turn her life around and start fresh.
The movie also features performances by Gladys Knight, Sofia Vergara, and David and Tamela Mann. Madea Goes to Jail was a box office success and has become a fan favorite in the Madea franchise.
