Made in Dagenham is a British film based on the true story of the 1968 Ford sewing machinists strike at the Ford Dagenham car plant. The film follows the female workers who walked out in protest against sexual discrimination when their jobs as skilled machinists were downgraded to unskilled. The women argued that they should be paid the same as male workers for doing the same job. The strike sparked a movement and inspired a generation of women to fight for equal pay and better working conditions. The film stars Sally Hawkins as Rita O'Grady, the leader of the strike, with support from Bob Hoskins, Miranda Richardson, Rosamund Pike and Jaime Winstone. Made in Dagenham was directed by Nigel Cole and written by William Ivory. It was released in 2010 and received critical acclaim for its portrayal of the fight for women's rights and the impact of the strike.
