Made in America is a 1993 American comedy film directed by Richard Benjamin and starring Whoopi Goldberg and Ted Danson. Goldberg plays Sarah Matthews, a single mother who runs an African-American bookstore and is raising her daughter Zora (played by Nia Long). When Zora applies to college, the admissions office informs her that her blood type does not match either of her parents', leading her to discover that her father was a sperm donor.

After some investigation, Zora and Sarah learn that her father is a white man named Hal Jackson (played by Danson). The two families meet and struggle to come to terms with the situation. Sarah is initially outraged that her daughter's father is white and feels that she has been robbed of the chance to give her daughter a strong African-American role model.

Hal, too, has some trouble adjusting to the situation. He is a stereotypical "white bread" businessman who knows little about African-American culture and is uncomfortable in the presence of Sarah and her friends. Nevertheless, he is determined to be a part of his daughter's life, and the two families slowly begin to bond.

As the story unfolds, Zora and her boyfriend Tea Cake (played by Will Smith) work to complete a class project on racial identity, Hal and Sarah tentatively begin a romantic relationship, and the families learn to accept each other's differences. Made in America is a heartwarming comedy that tackles issues of race, identity, and family with humor and sensitivity.
