Mad Max 2, also known as The Road Warrior, is a 1981 Australian action film directed by George Miller. It is the second film in the Mad Max franchise, following the 1979 film Mad Max.
Set in a post-apocalyptic Australia, the film follows Max Rockatansky (played by Mel Gibson) as he roams the desert wasteland in search of gasoline. He comes across a small, fortified oil refinery under siege by a ruthless gang of marauders led by the charismatic Lord Humungus, who seeks to take control of the precious fuel.
Max initially refuses to help the defenders, but eventually forms an uneasy alliance with them in order to secure fuel for his own purposes. Along the way, he befriends a feral child and clashes with the psychotic Toecutter, a character from the first film.
The film is known for its high-octane car chases and stunt work, as well as its unique post-apocalyptic setting and use of practical effects. It was a commercial success and helped establish Mel Gibson as a leading action star. The film has since become a cult classic and is considered one of the greatest action films of all time.
