MacKenna's Gold is a 1969 Western adventure film directed by J. Lee Thompson and stars Gregory Peck as the titular Marshal Sam MacKenna. The movie follows MacKenna as he is kidnapped by a notorious bandit named Colorado (played by Omar Sharif) who believes that MacKenna has seen a map which leads to a hidden canyon filled with gold.
Colorado threatens to kill MacKenna's wife and family if he refuses to lead him to the gold. MacKenna is forced to join Colorado on a treacherous journey through the desert in search of the treasure.
As they journey through the Wild West's dangerous terrain, they encounter a group of "honorable" citizens who are searching for the gold as well, including a ruthless and cunning Mexican bandit named Hototo (played by Telly Savalas) who is determined to claim the treasure for himself.
The group also must navigate through dangerous Indian territory and fend off attacks from the cavalry. Throughout the film, MacKenna struggles to keep his morality intact while being tested by greed, temptation, and deceit.
The film's all-star cast includes actors such as Julie Newmar, Edward G. Robinson, Eli Wallach, Lee J. Cobb, and Burgess Meredith. The film's musical score was composed by Quincy Jones, with the title song sung by José Feliciano.
MacKenna's Gold was a critical and commercial success, grossing over $10 million at the box office. Despite mixed reviews from critics, the film remains a popular and beloved Western adventure classic.
