Machete Kills is a 2013 action-comedy film directed by Robert Rodriguez and starring Danny Trejo as the protagonist, Machete. In this sequel to the 2010 film Machete, the titular character is recruited by the President of the United States (played by Charlie Sheen, credited under his birth name Carlos Estevez) to take down a dangerous global threat.
The film begins with Machete being recruited by the President to stop a missile threat from Mexican revolutionary Marcos Mendez (Demian Bichir), who is threatening to launch one at Washington D.C. if the U.S. does not withdrawal from Mexico. Machete succeeds in stopping the missile but in turn is betrayed and left for dead.
Machete is then resurrected by a mysterious woman named Miss San Antonio (Amber Heard), who works for the eccentric arms dealer Luther Voz (Mel Gibson). Voz has a plan to start a global war by launching a weapon into space that will wipe out all life on Earth except for his hand-selected few. Machete must team up with new allies and old friends to stop Voz and save the world.
The film features a star-studded ensemble cast, including Michelle Rodriguez, Lady Gaga, Antonio Banderas, Jessica Alba, Vanessa Hudgens, and Sofia Vergara. It is known for its over-the-top violence and humor, with Machete wielding a variety of absurd weapons, including a machete that doubles as a guitar.
