Lying and Stealing follows the story of Ivan (Theo James), a suave and talented art thief who wants to leave his life of crime behind. His main motivation is to start fresh and take care of his younger brother who has been neglected by their alcoholic father. Ivan meets Elyse (Emily Ratajkowski), a beautiful and charismatic con artist who needs his help in conning a wealthy art collector.
Together they plan the ultimate heist- to steal a valuable painting from a corrupt businessman (Fred Melamed), but they soon discover that they are not the only ones interested in the painting, and they must navigate through dangerous and unexpected situations in order to pull off the job. As they spend more time together, Ivan and Elyse find themselves developing a romantic connection, which adds to the complexity of their already complicated plan.
Throughout the movie, Ivan grapples with his internal conflicts between his desire to leave his criminal past behind him and his love for the thrill of the heist.
