Kira Slater, a successful web designer living in Chicago, finds out that her estranged father has passed away and she has inherited a wildlife reserve in South Africa. Despite having no interest in animals or the African wilderness, Kira decides to visit the reserve to assess its value and decide whether to sell it or not.
On arrival, she meets Tom, a rugged and no-nonsense park ranger, who takes her on a safari to familiarize her with the land and its animals. Kira initially resents Tom's blunt, and sometimes harsh, attitude towards her and the reserve, but she gradually starts to appreciate his passion and knowledge for the African wildlife.
As Kira spends more time on the reserve, she begins to fall in love with the animals and the stunning natural scenery. She also finds herself drawn to Tom, who she discovers has been struggling to keep the reserve running due to limited funding. Kira decides to help Tom save the reserve, using her technical skills to create a website and online presence for the park, which attracts tourists and donors.
As Kira and Tom work together to keep the reserve running, they grow closer, and Kira realizes that she has fallen in love with both the land and the rugged bush ranger. However, their differences and Kira's obligations in Chicago threaten to pull them apart.
