However, when George loses his job as a music teacher at a Catholic school as a result of their marriage, the couple is forced to sell their apartment and find new living arrangements.

Ben, a painter, is able to move in with his nephew and his family, but George has to stay with friends while he tries to find a new job and a new home. With its strong performances by Lithgow and Molina, as well as a talented supporting cast that includes Marisa Tomei and Charlie Tahan, Love Is Strange is a moving and poignant portrayal of the challenges faced by those who dare to love outside the conventional norms of society.
