Drama,Romance  United States of America

Love in the Time of Cholera is a film adaptation of the novel of the same name by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. The story takes place in the early 20th century in Colombia and follows the epic love story of Florentino Ariza (Javier Bardem) and Fermina Daza (Giovanna Mezzogiorno) over the course of more than fifty years.

Florentino falls in love with Fermina when he is just a young telegraph boy, but their relationship is quickly forbidden by her father. Undeterred, Florentino writes Fermina countless love letters and waits for her to come around.

After a period of separation, Fermina marries a wealthy doctor named Juvenal Urbino (Benjamin Bratt) and starts a family. Florentino, heartbroken, throws himself into his work at the telegraph office and becomes a notorious womanizer, having countless affairs but never forgetting his true love for Fermina.

Years pass, and when Juvenal dies suddenly, Florentino sees his chance to win Fermina back. He spends several years courting her and finally wins her over, but their reunion is not without its complications and misfortunes.

The film is a sweeping epic that explores themes of love, loyalty, and the passage of time. It is beautifully shot and features strong performances from its lead actors, particularly Bardem, who brings depth and nuance to the character of Florentino.
