The film Love Hard follows the story of Los Angeles girl, Natalie, who is unlucky in love. She enters the world of online dating, matching with a guy named Josh from Connecticut. They hit it off and begin chatting daily, leading to a significant connection. Josh invites Natalie to spend Christmas with him in Connecticut, and Natalie decides to surprise Josh by showing up on his doorstep unannounced.
But when Natalie arrives, she discovers that Josh is not who he said he is. He is actually a guy named Tag, who used Josh's photos to trick Natalie into falling for him. Natalie is heartbroken, but soon discovers that the real Josh actually lives in the same small town as Tag and that they know each other. Josh is also interested in Natalie but has been too shy to make a move.
Tag then offers to set Josh and Natalie up if Natalie pretends to be his girlfriend for the holidays. Natalie agrees to the charade, and the two of them are off to various festive activities. Despite feeling awkward about pretending to be in a relationship with Tag, Natalie can't help but feel a genuine connection with Josh as they spend more and more time together.
As the holidays progress, Natalie struggles to keep up the charade, but the more she gets to know Josh, the more she begins to think that she might have found someone worth fighting for. Will Natalie's Christmas surprise lead to the real love she has been searching for?
