As the mechanic's health rapidly deteriorates, he realizes that he won't be able to care for his beloved sex doll much longer. Desperate to find her a new home before he dies, he turns to his estranged son for help. The son, who has always been embarrassed by his father's bizarre obsession, reluctantly agrees to accompany him on a cross-country road trip to find the doll a new owner.
Along the way, the two men struggle to reconnect as they confront the painful truths of their past and present. The son, who has spent his whole life chasing fame and fortune in Hollywood, is forced to confront the emptiness of his own life as he watches his father's final days slip away.
As they travel, they encounter a colorful cast of characters, from a well-meaning but clueless couple they meet at a roadside diner to a group of eccentric collectors at a sex toy convention. Through it all, the mechanic remains steadfast in his love for the doll, even as his health continues to decline.
In the end, the father and son must come to terms with their own mortality and the meaning of love and loss. The son realizes that his father's unconventional love for the doll was a symbol of the unconditional love he always had for him, and he finds a new respect and appreciation for his father's quirks. And as the mechanic passes away, his final wish is that his beloved doll be taken care of and loved, just as he was.
