Love and Monsters is a post-apocalyptic adventure film that takes place seven years after a cataclysmic event caused giant monsters to emerge and take over the Earth. The story follows Joel Dawson (Dylan O'Brien), a timid and unskilled survivor who is living in an underground colony with other human survivors. Joel spends his days completing mundane tasks and dreaming of his high school sweetheart, Aimee (Jessica Henwick), who is living 80 miles away in a coastal colony.
When Joel reconnects with Aimee over the radio, he realizes he still has feelings for her and decides to leave the safety of the underground colony to brave the dangerous monsters and travel to her colony. Along the way, Joel enlists the help of an intelligent dog named Boy, and meets various other survivors, including Clyde (Michael Rooker) and Minnow (Ariana Greenblatt).
The journey to Aimee's colony is treacherous, as Joel encounters a variety of monsters, including giant ants, leeches, and even a massive crab. But with the help of his new friends and some newfound courage, Joel learns to face his fears and comes closer to reuniting with Aimee.
