Love & Gelato is a coming-of-age romance movie that follows the story of Lina, a high school graduate who is set to attend MIT. However, her plans to focus on her studies and future career are put on hold when her mother, who is battling cancer, urges her to spend the summer in Italy, where her mother spent much of her youth.
Lina reluctantly gives in and travels to Tuscany to stay with her mother's friend, Howard, who knew Lina's mother when they were younger. Despite feeling out of place in this new country, Lina's curiosity is awakened when she discovers her mother's old diary detailing her life in Italy. Drawn by the magical and romantic stories, Lina sets out to discover the beauty of the country for herself.
As Lina travels around Italy with Howard's son, Ren, who becomes her guide and confidant, she begins to uncover the truth about her mother's past and her own family. Along the way, she falls in love with the country's beauty, people, and, of course, gelato. However, Lina must also confront her fears and face the challenges of gaining a deeper understanding of her mother and her family history, all while discovering a new sense of self.
