Lost in Alaska Movie Summary

Rescue Mission: Falsely Accused

Comedy  United States of America

Lost in Alaska is a classic comedy film released in 1952 and directed by Jean Yarbrough. The story begins with two bumbling firemen, Peter (Bud Abbott) and George (Lou Costello), who are stationed at a small fire department in San Francisco. One day, they receive a distress call from a gold prospector named Charlie (Tom Ewell), who intends to end his life as he has been unsuccessful in his search for gold.

Peter and George arrive at Charlie's cabin to rescue him. However, they accidentally cause an explosion that knocks them all unconscious. When they wake up, they find themselves lost in the wilderness of Alaska, far away from civilization. They also discover that Charlie has struck gold, but they have no idea where they are or how to get back to San Francisco.

As they journey through the wilderness, Peter and George encounter a series of misadventures, including a run-in with an aggressive grizzly bear, a treacherous river crossing, a tangled mess with a group of Eskimos, and a dangerous encounter with a polar bear. Along the way, they get into various situations that cause them to argue, bicker and entertain audiences with their signature slapstick comedy routines.

Meanwhile, back in San Francisco, the police have mistaken Peter and George as Charlie's killers and are on an all-out manhunt to find them. This sets up a climactic showdown when Peter and George finally make it back to San Francisco and are greeted by the police.

In the end, all is resolved, and the trio of characters ends up with their desired outcomes: Charlie keeps his gold, Peter and George are cleared of any wrongdoing, and everyone lives happily ever after. Lost in Alaska is Abbott and Costello at their comedic best and is considered to be one of their finest films.
