Lords of Chaos is a biographical drama film that was released in 2018. The movie is based on the true story of a group of Norwegian teenagers who are determined to launch Norwegian Black Metal in Oslo in the 1990s. The film provides a harrowing account of how this movement led by the musicians Euronymous (Rory Culkin) and Varg (Emory Cohen) descended into dark violence, self-destructive disdain and betrayal.

The film begins with Euronymous, a guitarist of the band 'Mayhem,' and his group of misfit friends obsessed with satanism, death and darkness, practicing in their basement in Oslo. They want to make black metal so extreme that it will be nothing like the music the scene has seen before. Euronymous' plan is solidified when he recruits a new member, a strange young man named Kristian Vikernes, otherwise known as Varg. As Mayhem's popularity grows, tension rises within the band, and the filmmakers do an excellent job of documenting how their obsession with darkness and death drove them to unpredictable ends.

The film is a mix of drama, black comedy and horror. It takes viewers on a seriously disturbing ride through a macabre corner of Norway's music scene. The film is worth watching if you are a fan of the genre, but there is no shortage of gore. It's difficult to say whether it's entirely factual, especially since it's based on a book that's been called into question for dramatic inaccuracies. However, the movie takes a well-rounded and engaging approach to the subject matter, making it one of the more intriguing and fascinating biographical dramas out there.
