After the events of the previous film in which Ogami Itto (played by Tomisaburo Wakayama) was betrayed and left for dead, he is back on the road to seek revenge against the powerful Yagyu clan who falsely accused him of treason. However, along the way, he encounters a female prostitute, Oyuki (played by Michie Azuma), who is being brutally attacked by a group of Yakuza. Itto intervenes and offers himself up as a substitute for her torture, despite being severely injured from his previous battles.
Moved by his bravery, the Yakuza leader Shogun Gowun (played by Minoru Ohki) asks Itto to work for him as a hired assassin. He reveals that he wants Itto to kill the corrupt chamberlain of Edo, who has been extorting money from the townspeople and exploiting the poor. Itto agrees to the task, but also has his own personal vendetta against the chamberlain, who was responsible for the framing of his clan.
As Itto and his son, Daigoro (played by Akihiro Tomikawa), make their way to Edo to carry out the mission, they face numerous obstacles and enemies, including a group of deadly female assassins and a gang of bandits who attempt to ambush them. Along the way, they also encounter a young girl named Omatsu (played by Yoichi Hayashi), who is searching for her missing brother, and becomes a surrogate daughter to Itto.
When Itto finally arrives in Edo, he discovers that the chamberlain has increased his power, and is now protected by a formidable army of samurai. However, with his exceptional swordsmanship skills, and the help of his allies, Itto engages in an epic battle with the chamberlain and his forces, culminating in a stunning showdown that will determine his fate and that of the Yagyu clan.
