Little Women is a film adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's novel of the same name. The movie follows the lives of the four March sisters: Jo, Meg, Amy, and Beth, as they grow up in the aftermath of the Civil War in Concord, Massachusetts.
Jo is the tomboyish and rebellious sister who dreams of becoming a writer and struggles to find her place in society. Meg is the oldest sister who is eager to marry and start a family but recognizes the limitations of her gender. Amy is the youngest sister who is artistic and often placed in the shadow of the others but ultimately becomes a successful artist in Europe. Beth is the gentle and musically-talented sister who is plagued with illness throughout the film.
As they navigate their way through love, loss, and the pressures of society, the sisters are supported by their mother, Marmee, who encourages them to be independent and stand up for themselves. The film also explores their relationships with their neighbor, Laurie, who becomes a close friend and confidante, and their Aunt March, who provides financial support but also expects them to conform to societal norms.
