Seymour's initial discovery of the plant, which he finds during a solar eclipse, catapults him and Audrey into a newfound fame as the plant starts drawing crowds to the flower shop. However, as the plant grows, its appetite for blood and flesh increases, and Seymour must find ways to sate its hunger.
Audrey, meanwhile, is trapped in an abusive relationship with a sadistic dentist named Orin Scrivello, who delights in inflicting pain on his patients. Audrey dreams of a better life and a white picket fence, but is resigned to her fate until Seymour reveals his love for her.
As Audrey II grows more insatiable and Seymour struggles to keep up with its demands, he realizes too late that the plant is actually an alien entity intent on taking over the world. In a final showdown, Seymour and Audrey must defeat the plant in order to save the world and find their happily ever after.
