Comedy,Drama,Family  United States of America

The movie Little Miss Marker, released in 1934, is a comedy-drama that follows the story of a young girl, Marthy Jane, who is left as collateral for her father's gambling debt. Sorrowful Jones, a bookmaker who takes care of Marthy Jane, is initially hesitant to take responsibility for the child. However, as he spends more time with her, he begins to develop a bond with her and takes it upon himself to find her a more suitable guardian than himself.

Meanwhile, Big Steve Halloway, the owner of the Horseshoe Cabaret and Dream Prince, hires a hitman to kill Sorrowful due to his involvement with Bangles Carson, Steve's lover. However, the hitman is unsuccessful, and Steve is eventually caught for his illegal betting activities.

As Marthy Jane starts to adjust to her new life, she becomes a source of joy and inspiration for everyone around her. Sorrowful, who initially resented her presence, comes to love and care for her deeply. Eventually, Marthy Jane is reunited with her mother, who has been searching for her, and Sorrowful finds a new purpose in life.

The movie features impressive performances by Shirley Temple, who was only six years old at the time, and Adolphe Menjou, who played Sorrowful Jones. The film was a commercial success and helped establish Temple's career as a child star.
