Lanie Kerrigan (played by Angelina Jolie) is a successful TV reporter in Seattle who is ambitious and always striving for the next big story. She is assigned to report on the upcoming football game between the Seattle Seahawks and the New York Giants. While reporting from the streets, she meets a homeless man who claims to be a psychic and predicts that the score of the game will be 28-14 in favor of the Seahawks.

Feeling like the story is not interesting enough, Lanie presses the homeless man for more information. Instead, he tells her that she is going to die in just a few days and that her life has no real meaning. Shocked and shaken, Lanie becomes obsessed with the idea of changing her life and proving the psychic wrong. She starts to question her fast-paced, ambitious lifestyle and begins to re-evaluate her priorities.

Lanie's fiancé, Pete (played by Edward Burns), is supportive but unsure of the sudden changes in her behavior. Lanie also reconnects with an old flame, Cal (played by Tony Shalhoub), who helps her in her search for meaning and purpose.

As the days pass, Lanie becomes increasingly desperate to prove the psychic wrong and make the most of her life. She tries everything from skydiving to reconciling with her estranged father. On the day of the football game, Lanie misses the live broadcast and rushes to the stadium to see the score. The game ends with a 29-14 victory for the Seahawks, proving the psychic wrong.

Overwhelmed with relief and a newfound sense of purpose, Lanie returns to her job as a reporter with a renewed perspective on life. She delivers a heartfelt broadcast about the importance of living in the moment and cherishing every day.
