The movie follows the story of Louis Gara and Ordell Robbie, two small-time criminals who plan to kidnap the wealthy Mickey Dawson and hold her for ransom. However, they soon discover that her husband, Frank Dawson, is a sleazy real-estate developer who is having an affair and has no interest in paying the ransom for his wife's return.
As Louis and Ordell struggle to keep their plan afloat and deal with the erratic behavior of their hostage, they also have to contend with the arrival of a racist ex-convict who wants in on the potential money to be made from the kidnapping.
Throughout the film, we see the power dynamics between the kidnappers and their captive shift as Mickey slowly begins to see Louis and Ordell as human beings rather than just criminals. As tensions rise and the stakes get higher, the characters must all make difficult choices that will ultimately determine their fate.
Life of Crime is a darkly comedic crime film that explores the complexities of human relationships and the lengths some people will go to for money and power. It features a talented cast including Jennifer Aniston, Tim Robbins, and Isla Fisher, and is based on the novel The Switch by Elmore Leonard.
