The movie Life of a King is based on the true story of Eugene Brown, a former convicted felon who spends 18 years in prison for armed robbery. After being released, Brown struggles to find employment and reconnect with his family. During this difficult time, he stumbles upon a chess set at a local library and becomes fascinated by the game.
Inspired by the positive impact that chess had on his own life, Brown decides to start a chess club for at-risk youth in Washington DC. He finds a rundown recreation center and convinces the local authorities to let him use it as the club's headquarters.
Despite facing opposition from both the kids and the community, Brown persists with his mission to teach the kids the game of chess and help them develop critical thinking, life skills, and a sense of self-worth. He also mentors them on making better decisions and encourages them to pursue their dreams.
As the kids begin to improve their skills and gain confidence, the club attracts attention from the media and other community members. However, Brown is not without his setbacks. Personal struggles like his health issues and financial problems threaten to shut down the club.
