In Lethal Weapon, Roger Murtaugh (played by Danny Glover) is a veteran detective who is days away from retirement. He is assigned to work with Martin Riggs (played by Mel Gibson), a volatile cop who is still grieving the loss of his wife and has a reputation for being reckless and suicidal.
At first, Murtaugh is reluctant to work with Riggs and tries to keep him in check. But as they investigate the case of Amanda Hunsaker, a young woman who was apparently killed in a drug overdose, they begin to form a bond and learn to trust each other.
Their investigation leads them to a dangerous criminal underworld, run by a ruthless drug lord known as Mr. Joshua (played by Gary Busey). They also discover that Amanda was the daughter of Murtaugh's old friend and fellow cop Michael Hunsaker (played by Tom Atkins), who is now working as an informant.
As they get closer to the truth, Riggs and Murtaugh find themselves in increasingly dangerous situations, including a harrowing chase through the streets of Los Angeles, a shootout in a nightclub, and a deadly showdown at Mr. Joshua's headquarters.
Despite their differences and personal struggles, Riggs and Murtaugh ultimately succeed in bringing the criminals to justice and solving the case. By the end of the movie, they have formed a strong bond and become good friends, setting the stage for three more blockbuster sequels.
