The movie opens with a scene of Darth Vader and stormtroopers trying to open a locked door on a rebel base. Eventually, they break through and Vader is pleased at finally catching the rebels, only to be met with disappointment when he discovers that they are just droids. This disappointment is compounded when the Emperor interrupts Vader’s mission to send him on a secret mission to deal with a threat that has been detected on the planet Naboo.
Meanwhile, Luke Skywalker is enjoying his newfound fame as the “Death Star-Blower-Upper”, but is finding it hard to balance his responsibilities as a Jedi with the demands of his adoring fans. He is determined to prove himself to the Rebel Alliance and seeks out a secret mission to Naboo that will allow him to do just that.
On his way to Naboo, Luke meets a group of young padawans who are also on a secret mission. They are on a mission to track down a rare and valuable crystal that is needed to complete their lightsabers. Luke offers to help them in exchange for their help in completing his own mission.
Meanwhile, Vader arrives on Naboo and discovers that he is not the only Sith Lord on the planet. Darth Maul has also been sent to deal with the threat, and the two of them engage in a duel. During the fight, Luke and his companions arrive and also become involved in the battle.
The fight ends with Luke and Vader locked in a lightsaber duel that takes them across the city and eventually onto a space station. It is here that their destinies are revealed and their paths as Jedi and Sith are set. In the end, Luke emerges victorious and the galaxy is saved once again.
