Legend of the Wolf

Action  Hong Kong

Legend of the Wolf is a 1997 Hong Kong martial arts film directed by Donnie Yen and starring him in the lead role as a war veteran known as Wolf. The film is largely a flashback to a time after World War II when a young Wolf is wandering the Chinese countryside in search of his missing memories.

As the story begins, Wolf meets a local villager named Fung (played by Dayo Wong), who agrees to guide him to an abandoned temple where he is supposed to meet someone who can help him uncover his past. Along the way, they encounter a young woman named Wai-Yee (Carmen Lee), who has been waiting for Wolf for some time. She reveals that she has been waiting for him because he is the only one who can help her solve the mystery of her father's death.

As Wolf and his companions continue their journey, the truth about his past begins to slowly emerge. It is revealed that he was once a member of an elite group of assassins who were betrayed by their leader, played by Ben Lam. With the help of his old friends, Wolf sets out to seek revenge against their traitorous former leader and the other members of the group who have turned against them.

Throughout the course of the film, there are numerous action sequences and fight scenes, which showcase Yen's incredible martial arts skills. The film also deals with themes of honor, loyalty, and redemption, as Wolf struggles to come to terms with his violent past and forge a new path for himself in life.

Overall, Legend of the Wolf is a compelling and action-packed martial arts film that demonstrates Yen's talents not just as an actor, but as a filmmaker as well. It is a must-watch for fans of the genre and anyone interested in exploring the complex themes of Chinese action cinema.
