"Lean On Me" is a 1989 biographical drama film directed by John G. Avildsen and starring Morgan Freeman. The movie is based on the true story of Joe Louis Clark, who served as the principal of Eastside High School in Paterson, New Jersey, during the 1980s.

The movie begins with the introduction of Joe Clark, a strict disciplinarian who is asked to take over as principal of Eastside High, which is facing numerous problems including violence, drugs, and a rapidly declining graduation rate. Clark immediately sets to work, expelling students who are suspected of drug use and imposing new rules on the school. He also locks the school's doors to keep out gang members and puts together a team of teachers to help him turn the school around.

Clark's leadership is soon put to the test when the school's faculty members threaten to go on strike, arguing that Clark's methods are too extreme and harmful to the students. However, Clark refuses to back down and perseveres in his efforts to improve the school's academic performance and inspire its students.

As the school year progresses, Clark begins to form a relationship with one of the students, a troubled boy named Thomas Sams who he takes under his wing and mentors. Together, they navigate through various obstacles that threaten to derail both their lives.

Ultimately, Clark's efforts pay off and the graduation rate at Eastside High School improves significantly. The movie ends with Clark receiving recognition for his achievements and a renewed sense of hope for the future of the students at his school.
