Le Trou is a French film directed by Jacques Becker and released in 1960. The movie is based on a novel by José Giovanni which was inspired by a true story. The movie stars André Bervil, Michel Constantin, Jean Keraudy, Philippe Leroy, Raymond Meunier, and Marc Michel.

The story is set in the prison de la Santé in Paris. Four inmates who are serving time for various crimes are planning to escape from prison by digging a tunnel. They have already spent six months digging a hole in their cell when another inmate, Claude Gaspard (played by Marc Michel), who has been transferred from another jail, is placed in their cell.

Initially, the other inmates are skeptical about including Gaspard in their plan but once he proves to be an asset in the digging, they begin to trust him. The group works tirelessly to finish the tunnel and finally break through the concrete floor into the sewer system. However, things don't go as planned when one of the inmates becomes suspicious of Gaspard and his motives.

The tension builds as the group realizes that their escape is not assured and they face several obstacles during their journey through the sewer system. The film is a masterpiece of suspense and drama, with exceptional performances by the cast. Le Trou is considered one of the best prison escape movies of all time and remains a classic of French cinema.
